Day 7 & 8: Coffee, Beer and Sea sickness.( Boston, Gloucester, and Shelborne Falls) Part 2

I do apologize to anyone that I may have left in suspense yesterday. We are perfectly fine. I literally could not keep my eyes open last night!
Where I left off was that we had just learned that there was another boat about to leave yesterday morning after we learned that the first one had been canceled. The first company refunded us our ticket money and called the second to hold the boat for us as we stupidly decided that we absolutely needed to take a whale watching boat due to our fast approaching exit of the New England states.
We literally had time to throw on sweatshirts and hop on the boat, having missed a great deal of the introduction before the boat set out to sea. Tony and I decided to sit outside of the cabin at the bow of the boat and watch as the land slid out of sight and we began to pick up speed.
I had been out whale watching in cape cod a few years ago and Tony had been deep sea fishing once so this was not our very first experience with the sea. I do, however, recall seeing a basket full of motion sickness tablets and debating in my mind whether or not I should pick some up. It was a poor poor decision on my part as the smart-Alic, know-it-all side of my brain said," nah, you'll be fine you've been out before". Silly me.
The first hour was absolutely beautiful, though it was a bit choppy. Tony and I laughed as we looked out at the water and day dreamed of what it would be like to see the first whale spout. The overcast sky did not seem ominous but friendly as a kind stranger to the overbearing heat of the last week. There was something magical about the salty sea air and the inspiring thought of seeing a humpback that sparkled between us and the other daring souls that joined us on the deck. We sat quietly and listened, watched, and waited for the boat to slow down and for the first person to excitedly say, "oooh, look over there!"
That moment never came. Instead of slowing down or getting less choppy, the deck began to seem like an uncomfortable place to be. The cold water splashed up the sides and the horizon began to look more and more tilty. We slowly felt our smiles fade and our stomachs begin to turn. As the Ship turned into the wind the deck became temporarily more stable and we rushed into the cabin and out of the cold wet weather. For the rest of the miserable trip that is where 98 percent of the attendees stayed. Most were sprawled out across benches and tables, all a little bit green ( the two of us included!) Occasionally we would see someone rushing to the stern to toss cookies over the railing. At one point, after Tony fell soundly asleep with his head against the surface of a cool table the captain announced that we would slowly be turning around because we were sloshing around too much for even the whale spotters to see a spout or dorsal fin and the wind was becoming dangerous.

Nearly 3 and a half hours after we boarded we finally came back to dry land. The crew apologized because no one had seen a single whale, or even a dolphin for that matter and gave us all passes for another try with their company. We learned our lesson about being in a hurry when conditions are not right. 2 and a half hours is a very long time to be motion sick! ( Sorry Miss this means we wont get to see Zeppelin this time. =C )
After we got back to the car we decided to go for a drive but we weren't sure where. Our next host wasn't to be home until 7pm. We ended up driving around kind of aimlessly, and even ended up in a little town called Nashua in New Hampshire( We had just decided a few days before that we didn't want to hit all 48 states just for the sake of driving through them. It just so happened that we didn't have to be anywhere and were curious.) before we turned around and headed to Shelborne falls.
The funny part about all the crazy driving around, trying to find something interesting to occupy our time was that when we finally got to Shelborne Falls we realized it so beautifully looked like a movie set. We walked around for a bit but if we had just driven there in the first place, we would have been able to explore it before everything closed down for the day.

After 7 we met up with our fifth hosts in 8 days, Steve and Kerstin, Lovely people that are almost our exact ages! We sat and had a few beer and talked with them last night. Then we left early this morning. They too, were off on a mini road trip of their own.
Today we went to the Woodstock museum but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for that post and for us to put video and pictures on to these last two. Nighty night.
